What Is IT Management?
IT management is the practice of overseeing an organisation’s technology resources — systems, networks, software, security, budgets and people — so they run reliably and support business goals.
IT management makes sure technology actually helps the business rather than getting in the way. It covers planning what technology you need, keeping systems running and secure, managing budgets and vendors, and making sure everything aligns with where the business is going.
Typical IT management responsibilities include: infrastructure and systems, cybersecurity and data protection, software and licences, backups and disaster recovery, user support, and IT strategy and governance.
Smaller businesses often outsource IT management to a consultancy rather than hiring a full in-house team — getting expert oversight without the overhead.
