What Is IT Infrastructure?

IT infrastructure is the foundational set of hardware, software, networks and services on which an organisation builds and runs its IT systems.

IT infrastructure includes the physical and virtual components that deliver technology services: servers and storage, networking and internet connectivity, operating systems, cloud platforms, and security tools.

Strong, well-maintained infrastructure means systems are fast, available and secure. Weak infrastructure causes downtime, slow performance and security risk — which is why infrastructure review is a common part of an IT assessment.
