What Is IT Policy?

An IT policy is a documented set of rules and standards that govern how an organisation’s technology, data and systems are used, managed and protected.

IT policies set expectations and protect the business — covering things like acceptable use, passwords and access, data protection, backups, security and remote working.

Clear policies reduce security risk, support compliance, and make day-to-day IT decisions consistent. Developing them is a common IT consulting deliverable.
