What Is Server?

A server is a powerful computer that provides services, data or programs to other computers (clients) over a network or the internet.

Servers do specific jobs: a web server delivers websites, a mail server handles email, a file server stores shared files. They run continuously so services are always available.

Servers can be physical machines you own or virtual/cloud servers you rent. Choosing and configuring them well affects performance and reliability.
